RE: New TV + Old Antenna = No Picture?

The TV setup menu may have a setting for CATV (cable) or Antenna. Selecting the CATV when using an antenna would result in no picture.

RE: Water Pressure Damage

I always use a regulator at the faucet, and then before connecting the hose to the motorhome I run the water through the hose observing the flow, then shut it off, connect to the motorhome, and turn the faucet on only enough for adequate flow.
I never turn the faucet all the way on. I know many people do this, and I believe that's the source of many "high water pressure" damages.

RE: generator surges

I also have the Onan 400 generator. On our last trip the generator would surge a little but only when running the AC. We were at about 5,000 feet altitude and I did set the altitude adjustment on the generator. Never had the surging problem before. It's about a year old with 30 hours. I run it at least once a month for an hour or two under 1/2 load to exercise it.
Any thoughts on this? Thanks...

RE: emptying hot water tank

I drain mine only at the end of the camping season and also flush it out using a special long nosed nozzle made for that purpose. I only get a minimal amount of sediment when I flush it once a year. We camp only in Oregon, and the water is pretty good here, not too much junk in it. Never had a problem with stale smelly water.
I worked at a major RV sales and service center for a couple of years, and occasionally we'd get a trade-in with bad water in the water heater.

RE: Maxxis tires??

Thought I saw or read somewhere that Maxxis tires are made in China. Not saying that's good or bad, just that some people have a definite opinion about chinese made products.

RE: Has anyone had a Dometic Refridge quit due to the recall??

Note that with both Dometic or Norcold there are annual service checks and maintenance procedures which are "required". I don't know if they would, but they could deny a warranty claim based on this. I worked in the RV service business for a couple of years, and I've seen these kind of things happen.

RE: What did you do to your Class C MH today???

Since we attend one or two "star parties" each year (amateur astronomy gatherings), I installed a couple of small red LED clearance lights inside my motorhome. I mounted a mini toggle switch on the side of the existing plastic ceiling light fixture, and mounted the LED light next to the stock white light fixture.
For those who aren't aware, dim red light does not affect one's "night vision", and for that reason, you'll always see red lights at an astronomy gathering.
Works great!

RE: Caution About Joining Camping World Presidents Club

Three years ago when I owned a travel trailer I replaced the Parallax converter with the solid state model. Local RV dealer wanted $279. Camping World: $254, and with the President's Club discount I paid about $228. The savings more than paid for my PC membership that year.
Oh yeah ... Walmart didn't even stock the item, DOH!

RE: Leak on 2007 Winnebago!

This statement and using Eternabond are mutually exclusive. From what I've heard, Eternabond works fine, it just doesn't look (IMO) very good, and is a dead givaway that there was a leak.
If I saw Eternabond on a MH I wouldn't jump to the conclusion there was a leak ... sure I might suspect that, however I might also suspect it was done as a preventative measure. I've heard of Eternabond being applied long before any evidence of leaks.

RE: comparing rvs

Having spent a few years in the RV service business at a major Oregon sales and service outlet, I saw almost every make and model of motorhome. That's why when we decided to buy one a year ago, we chose Winnebago. Among Class C's in the price range the fit and finish is excellent.
We picked the Access model because of it's large storage compartment in the rear. Plenty of room for lawn chairs, lounge chairs, folding tables, whatever you take with you, the rear cargo area will handle it.
We've had a couple of warranty issues, but they with components of the motorhome (like the power converter)... no issues with the build quality of the unit.
When I was in the business I saw many issues with flimsy cabinetry, doors not fitting properly and other shoddy assembly issues with some brands.
I always noticed the quality of Winnebago/Itasca products and that's why I own one today.
Hope this info is helpful.

RE: Camping World?

Buying the President's Club membership can easily save you the initial cost if you buy enough stuff within the membership year. A couple of years ago, we bought a membership for $19.95 and saved over $35.00 on a power converter.
The last two years we've been able to catch the $12.00 membership price which they offer. I believe they only offer that special about once a year on their website.

RE: Stabilizers for Class C

We've had our motorhome for a year. At first we didn't mind the rocking motion when the other was moving about the coach. We're getting more sensitive to it on each outing, and am considering my options short of full-blown electric or hydraulic levelers.
I've seen many comments in this forum about the BAL QTG stabilizer system. Seems that people either love 'em or think their junk.
So I'll be watching this thread for ideas.

RE: Tow-haul mode

Over the last year with our new motorhome, I tried tow-haul mode when traveling over mountain passes. It works great, but sometimes keeps the tranny in a higher gear for longer than I think is necessary. Tow-haul mode also works great for descending a steep grade. A tap on the brake pedal shifts the tranny into a lower gear, however sometimes another tap on the pedal shifts it down even further, increasing the RPMs more than is necessary.
On our last trip over the mountain pass (Willamette Pass - Highway 58) I did not use tow-haul mode at all and it did fine.

RE: CA Areas Affected by Fires

I called and canceled my camping reservations at Burney Falls Memorial State Park next week (Tuesday - Saturday). Looked at the 10-day forecast for Burney, CA ... "areas of smoke..." almost every day. No thanks, I'll stay in Oregon. We made our reservations the first week of January, and were looking forward to the trip. Maybe next year.

RE: Tires on a Budget

and park on pieces of plywood (if the RV parks on asphalt....the oils in the asphalt will eat at the rubber in the tires)
I've also heard and read the recommendation of parking of pieces of plywood or plastic. What if my motorhome is parked on a level concrete pad ?

Check out the links below for fire info and highway cameras. We're planning a trip from Oregon to Burney Falls State Park next week and have found these two links very useful in determining fire conditions.
Use the highway cameras to see the air quality at various locations.
